The “Ksenija Petrogradska” (Xenia of St. Petersburg) vocal ensemble, comprised of academically educated singers, was founded in Belgrade, in 2019, with the aim of promoting Orthodox religious choral music. The first concert was held in the Church of the Ascension in Belgrade, in February 2020, and a year later the ensemble performed Bishop Hilarion Alfeyev’s composition Тебе поем (We Sing to You) at the Moscow Raduga festival, in its online edition. They also performed at many humanitarian concerts.

Conductor

Biserka Vasić was born into a Belgrade artistic family. She completed her graduate and specialist conducting studies at the Faculty of Music in Belgrade in 2008, in the class of Professor Emeritus Darinka Matić Marović. During her studies, she also studied Orthodox religious music.

News

This compact disc brings together selected works of Russian composers who marked the development of Russian religious music, from the period of classicism to the end of the 20th century. Each of the selected authors is characterized by authentic creative traits that are in accordance with the spirit of the age, and they all have in common the reliance on folk church melodies that have been saved from oblivion.

Blessed Xenia of Petersburg

Blessed Xenia of Petersburg, also known as Saint Xenia of Petersburg, was a Russian Orthodox saint and wonderworker. She was born between 1719 and 1730 in Petersburg (modern-day St. Petersburg). Little is known about her early life and youth, but she became well-known for her life following the tragic death of her husband.
